Sounds for Studying: Best Studying Music

By Kathryn Tanaka

Last year, I spent a lot of time studying for my AP classes and the slew of standardized tests so graciously crammed into junior year. Along with my computer and notebooks, I always made sure my earbuds were tucked neatly into the pocket of my backpack, saving me from the distracting chatter of Starbucks or the squeaky fan at Saratoga Library. Having made it out of junior year (relatively) unscathed, here are my suggestions (in no particular order) for songs to fill the long hours spent hunched over your notes!

1. Oppenheimer Soundtrack (Ludwig Göransson)

  • Very invigorating!
  • Has repeating motifs but doesn’t get repetitive
  • Makes you feel very smart

2. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Soundtrack (Metro Boomin)

  • Best for math when you don’t have to read words since the lyrics are distracting
  • Good variety of songs

3. ggg. videos

  • Sometimes, I get distracted by classical music, so I was looking for lyric-less music that was more modern and repetitive
  • All the videos still have different vibes, from bubbly tunes to more chill beats

4. Minecraft Soothing Scenes (specifically the cherry blossom one)

  • Really, really long, so you don’t have to worry about annoying ads in the middle!
  • These are the most ambient yet boring; perfect for study sessions where you have to lock in on reading

5. Niwamori Piano Compilation

  • If you’re looking for classical music, this is perfect!!
  • Very quiet, so you won’t get distracted by the music

6. Nintendo Supermarket

  • Energetic and fast paces, so it wakes me up when I feel like I’m gonna fall asleep

7. Animal Crossing + Rain Sounds

  • LOVE!!!!
