Tate McRae recently released the deluxe version of her album, So Close To What, on November 21, 2025—and all I can say is that I have been waiting for this deluxe album to come out for so long I legitimately had a dream about it before it came out. So it suffices to say that I was streaming the new songs the second that album released! And because I love the songs so much, I am going to rate the new songs off of the deluxe.
“Horseshoe” – 8/10
This song is so satisfying to listen to and such a smooth vibe—I don’t really know how to explain it. But, personally, this song is my least favorite out of the new ones. Don’t get me wrong, the song is really good and I still love it—but, most likely due to the simpler, sort of repetitive instrumental, it doesn’t really impact me the way the other three do. Overall though, still a really good song so I give it an 8/10.
“Anything But Love” – 9.5/10
Tate you absolutely ate with this song—if I was Laroi (Tate’s ex-boyfriend, and presumably who the song is about) I would cry if I listened to it. The instrumental, the lyrics, the vocals, the baddie vibes—everything about this song eats down so hard! I took half a point off of the song just because the beat is a little repetitive, but overall I adore the song.
“Nobody’s Girl” – 10/10
This song is legitimately life changing—I almost ascended whilst listening to it, that’s how good it is! At first, I didn’t heavily connect with the song, but by my third listen I was obsessed. Everything about the song—the instrumental, the lyrics, the vocals, the aesthetics—is pure perfection. I don’t have a single bad thing to say about the song, which is why I give it a 10/10 rating.
“Trying On Shoes” – 10/10
This song is so heavenly, I love it so so so much! The vibes from this song are immaculate, and so is everything else about the song—I could listen to it all day. From Tate’s melodious and emotional vocals, to the heavenly instrumental (it literally has a harp in it), this song scratches every itch I’ve ever had. Overall, I think this song is absolute perfection—just like “Nobody’s Girl”—and I can’t stop listening to it!
