By Roman Soto

Have you ever pressed shuffle on your playlist, only to have the repetitive nature of the selected musical genre play continuously on your listening device? Well, my fellow music connoisseurs, you’ve just stumbled upon a place to expand your music taste. Welcome to Roman’s Empire, your new favorite music column. My job here is to persuade you to add the suggested artist to your playlist. Here, we delve into some of music’s most captivating yet underrated artists from all over the world. It’s simple: find a comfortable chair and prepare to expand your musical knowledge. Today, we explore the brilliant elements that frame Bloc Party’s dazzling portrait.

As the years go by, it seems as if music takes a step back, attempting to reconnect with or repopularize older trends to create a euphoric atmosphere of nonexistent nostalgia for a new generation. As a direct result of this progression, Alternative/Indie rock has recently surged in popularity. Bloc Party, an Alternative band out of London, distinguished itself from many other ostensibly similar bands at the time through their unique blend of the traditional 2000’s Indie sound and electronic dance elements. Lead singer Kele Okereke brings an unseen passion to the vocal aspects of the band’s music; paired with lead guitarist Russell Lissack’s abstract, choppy riffs earned the band prestigious music awards such as the Ivan Elor Award for Best Song Collection for their widely acclaimed album, Silent Alarm.

Below are some of the band’s best works:

  • “Banquet”
  • “This Modern Love”
  • “Tulips”
  • “Little Thoughts”
