Sipping Away My Sadness: Best Chicha Sanchen Drinks

By Kathryn Tanaka

1. Green Milk Tea w/ Taro Balls and Taro Paste

If you hate how sweet normal drinks are, I recommend ordering this drink! The taro balls and taro paste have a subtle taste that doesn’t overpower the actual tea flavor. It comes in both hot and cold options, making it versatile throughout seasons. I personally double it as a hand warmer when I’m working…

2. Lemon and Mango Condensed Milk with Konjac Jelly

I did not expect to like this at all, but I’m glad I got to try it! A regular lemon condensed milk tastes like Yakult, which some people think is too sour. Fortunately, the mango cuts down all that tartness, making for a more pleasant taste. I didn’t get to try it with the konjac jelly, but I can feel it in my bones that it will be sublime.

3. Dongding Oolong Tea with Cream

I received this recommendation courtesy of Cambria Kelly, Chicha Sanchen connoisseur. If you like a tea that’s a little richer, this is the drink for you! If you’re unsure about the charcoaly notes, ordering boba as a topping might help balance out the flavors.

4. Bubble Volcano

What a classic! Maybe you’re a parent, anxious to keep your already hyperactive child off of caffeine. Maybe it’s already late, but you’re craving a sweet drink. Whatever your situation may be, the Bubble Volcano should stay on your radar. As one of the most popular drinks, you’re (almost) guaranteed to keep coming back.

5. Green Tea with Passion Fruit and Boba

I love the green tea!! As someone who looks for tea that doesn’t leave a bitter aftertaste, this tea is right up my alley. Also, the passion fruit seeds are so fun to crunch on. If you’re wondering about the difference between adding passion fruit and mango to your drink, passion fruit is less sweet than mango and less sour than lemon.
