Oreo Cream Pie: A Family Tradition

By Logan Whiteson

Every family has traditions. In my family, one of our sweetest constants is Oreo Cream Pie on Thanksgiving. I couldn’t tell you how many years it’s been—at this point, it feels like forever. It’s similar to the “Grey Stuff” from Beauty and the Beast, but nestled into a chocolatey Oreo crust. If you buy a premade crust, the recipe is entirely no-bake—just mixing, chilling, and enjoying.

Ingredients:

Crust

  • 22 Oreo cookies (with filling)
  • 5 tablespoons melted butter

Filling

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 Oreos, chopped

Topping (Optional)

  • Extra Oreos (I use 4-6)
  • Whipped Cream

Instructions

Make the crust:

  • Crush Oreos into fine crumbs
  • Mix with melted butter
  • Press into a 9-inch pie dish
  • Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes, then let cool

*(Or use a store-bought crust for a no-bake version.)

Make the filling:

  • Whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form; set aside
  • In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth
  • Gently fold in the whipped cream and chopped Oreos until fully combined

Assemble:

  • Spread the filling evenly into the crust and smooth the top

Chill:

  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight to set

Serve:

  • Garnish with whipped cream and crushed Oreos before slicing

Oreo Cream Pie is comforting, creamy, and impossible to mess up. Every year, someone suggests a different dessert, and every year, the idea gets scrapped in favor of keeping the tradition. Traditions don’t need to be complicated to last—or to matter.
