By Blake Kim
Two years after the release of NEVER ENOUGH, Daniel Caesar dropped Son of Spergy on October 24, 2025. Moving away from his typical R&B love songs, in this new album, Caesar takes a more introspective approach to his music. On Son of Spergy, Caesar describes his search for God, providing anecdotes of previous struggles in life and discovering faith and love. Throughout the album, Caesar feels conflicted between temptation (like lust) and faith, a more raw and honest storytelling. Smooth, his voice manifests his vulnerability, as opposed to the production, which manifests growth. Some notable songs include “Call on Me,” his first single released to prelude the album, “Baby Blue,” a trending song on TikTok, and “Sign Of The Times,” one of my personal favorites; this song delves into ideas about life and death (up for interpretation). Although not as perfect as my favorite Daniel Caesar album, Freudian, Son of Spergy is definitely an amazing album that is worth listening to for its honesty and introspective depth.
I got the Vinyl! Hooray!
