The local, professional women’s soccer team Bay FC, just finished their second professional season in the NWSL. They had a bit of a rough season with only four wins, eight draws, and 14 losses. Although they came short of the NWSL playoffs, fans filled the stands and supported the team all season long. Their story doesn’t just go as far as 13th place, this season featured record breaking game attendance, international player debuts, and impact on the Bay Area community.
A highlight from this season was when the team achieved a record-breaking attendance at their San Francisco debut at Oracle Park. There was an attendance of 40,091 fans in the stands, setting a record for all NWSL matches ever. Not only did it exceed NWSL standards, but the match represented the highest attended game in any US women’s professional leagues, across all sports.
Bay FC was also a big contributor to international play. Bay FC forward, Rachel Kundananji was selected to play on the Zambian national team in the 2025 WAFCON tournament. During the tournament she scored 3 goals in 4 appearances. In addition, Sydney Collins was called up to the Canadian Women’s national team in October. To add, Taylor Huff was called up to USWNT U-23 training camps and rosters in October, June, and March. Along with that, Jordan Silkowitz was put on the USWNT U-23 roster, also.
A main priority for the women’s soccer club was community involvement. Pay Pal Park hosted various themed nights for different groups around the Bay Area. Some of these nights were Women’s Empowerment Night, Pride Night, AANHPI Heritage Night, Juneteenth and Latino Heritage Night. Bay FC’s fans truly brought joy and an immense amount of support to each and every game.
Although 13th place was not what the club was striving for, this season brought many other tremendous achievements for the team. Bay FC is truly a powerhouse of community and skill and it will be amazing to see what more they can achieve in the coming years.
