The Fall

By Roman Soto

The farmhouse groaned after every pained step of Jenna’s mangled body; she had just escaped a nightmare, but the hunt wasn’t over. An otherworldly demon awaited her beyond the worn-down walls of her deceased grandfather’s home. The dog her grandfather had gotten her, the once cute pomeranian, had turned maliciously violent. “Boy was it a bad idea to keep it as a pet,” she thought. As the frigid air eerily crept through the window, she carefully crawled to the nearest bat. Panicked, Jenna hung a talisman upon every doorway to ensure her temporary safety. Knock Knock Knock. Her heart skipped a beat. She looked around to the left, to the right. Did I hang up enough talismans? The relentless winter made its way into the house. She made her way into the basement and it seem–AHHHHHH. The horrifying scream echoed throughout the house; it was right above her. Slowly, her neck creaked upward as she already knew what awaited her. Her eyes locked; the horrible creature with six legs seemingly broken in all directions clung to the ceiling with a giant smile on its face. Cold, heartless eyes gazed into her warm, blood-rushed body. As a drop of drool dripped from one of its blood-stained fangs. She unfroze her horrified body as she sprinted up the stairs of the basement while a screech of terror followed close behind. Clump Clump Clump. The creature loudly bumped into every object. A vase, in pieces, curtains, torn to pieces. She ran fast…but tripped. Her fate awaited as the creature’s jaws enclosed around her frail body.
