Flotilla Interception

By Nadia Rivas

In September 2025, a flotilla ( A fleet of ships/boats)  with 500 participants and 50 vessels set sail from Barcelona with a mission to give aid to those in Gaza. Participants ranging from activists to politicians from all around the world volunteered to be part of the organization, Freedom Flotilla Coalition. They began sailing in early August and September and were expected to arrive in early October, but were intercepted by Israeli forces. Fortunately, the passengers on board were safe and were to be sent back promptly. The Israeli foreign ministry said in a tweet on X, ¨ Another futile attempt to breach the legal naval blockade and enter a combat zone ended in nothing.¨ This was one of many interceptions by Israel, with 450 activists detained in an attempt to help aid Gaza. The FCC said Israeli forces hijacked their ship and were illegally intercepted. Participants on the boat were held against their will and were held in an undisclosed location. Several of the participants claim that they endured physical and psychological abuse while being held. The boat was holding $110,000 in medicines, food, and respiratory equipment ready to help those at hospitals in Gaza. American activist David Adler says he was ¨stripped,¨ ¨zip-tied,¨ and ¨ blindfolded.¨  were safely transported to Greece after three days in Israeli custody.
