Paradise, a misleading name for the suspenseful Hulu original show, follows Xavier Collins—a skeptical member of the Secret Service—as he attempts to unravel the dark secrets behind the President’s death. Underground in a dystopian, post-nuclear-war city, Collins must look beyond everything he knows to find the dark secrets of the so-called “Paradise”.
Below, I will be ranking some of the characters in the series. If you haven’t watched the series, please go do that before you read! Slight spoilers ahead!
Xavier Collins
As far as protagonists go, Collins is not that bad. He cares about his people, seeks the truth, and isn’t afraid to risk his life to protect those he loves. His only downside is his tendency towards grudges. Overall I would rate a 7/10.
Sinatra
This woman freaks me out. Every time she came on the screen I wanted to walk away. Even though they tried to make me empathize with her after her son died I just couldn’t feel anything for this terrifying woman. She kills people for no reason, covers up her lies with more lies, and could have avoided a lot of the mess if she just opened up to someone instead of vying for secret power. I would rate a 2/10 because she does basically make the story.
Cal Bradford
I wish he was real so he could be our President. I wanted to cry every time someone misunderstood this poor man. The guy didn’t get any love from his father, support from his son, and even his bodyguard/best friend told him he would never forgive him the night of his death. He deserved way better than all the people around him. Absolute 10/10.
Dr. Gabriella
She confused me. At first I really liked her, then she suddenly couldn’t pick a side and started to scare me. She never really chose anyone’s side and by the end just went back to Sinatra so I was a little disappointed in her overall character arc. 2/10.
Trent the Librarian
This story arc made me SO mad. I really do not like how he came in at the last minute as the answer to all the stories problems and questions. Although they could develop his backstory a little more in season 2, bringing him in to answer all the questions and then killing him off almost completely ruined the series. 1/10.
Presley Collins
I like her personality most of the time, but the girl needs to learn to just stay where she needs to be. Stop chasing after some random boy. 5/10.
Jane Driscoll
This is my least favorite character of all time. She killed everyone for no reason, enjoyed it, and only wanted to play Wii games. Why did she even make the cut for the secret underground society? 0/10.
Jeremy Bradford
I have mixed feelings about Jeremy. I feel that he could have done a little more in the unraveling of the story. He also made me really mad when he wouldn’t hang out with his poor, perfect dad. 4/10.
Billy Pace
This poor man just wanted a better life for himself. I am so so so mad that they killed him off. He had finally found his family. Justice for Billy. 10/10.
Overall, Paradise is a really amazing show that will keep you engaged throughout the 8 episodes. Although I think they killed off all of the best characters, I definitely will be tuning in for season 2, which was recently reported to have just wrapped up filming.
