1920’s- Human Rights Organizations

Founded by Henry Gerber, pride traces back to the early 1900’s in which individuals gathered to protect equity for all.

1966- Protests in New York

Protesting laws that prohibited serving drinks to those who are gay. Furthermore, this wasa large step for the gay movement.

1969- Police raid in New York

Police brutality against the LGBTQ community sparked a fight for social reform that would last for almost a year. 

1970- Christopher Street Gay LIberation Day in New York

First pride parade held in the United States.

1999- Pride becomes and acknowledged holiday 

President Bill Clinton declares June to be Gay and Lesbian Pride Month.

2015- Same- sex marriage legalized

Decision in Obergefell v. Hodges struck down all bans on same-sex marriage.

2016- Stonewall Inn Monument 

First LGBTQ National Historic Site declared by President Barack Obama.
