House to Home

By Averi Halbert

I will always stop to smell the flowers. The plethora of colors and an explosion of perfumy scents as you walk down the street is impossible to ignore. However, despite the inarguable beauty of nature, humans have created a society in which it is perceived strange to have flowers for the simple purpose of marveling at their beauty.

Such a simple addition to a house, they instantly make it a home. Whether you place your flowers on the table or a mantel makes no difference; all that matters is that they are appreciated for the beauty and peace they give.

For me, I have always found the typical, large bouquets to be too much. While stunning, they simply don’t bring me the same joy a few simple flowers would. Who needs a full bouquet? That is just a waste. When I realized Trader Joe’s had mini bouquets I started buying them every chance I got. An event happening? I’ll bring a mini bouquet. Birthday? Bouquet. Performance? Bouquet. I also realized I could buy them for no reason at all and simply keep them on my table to make me happy. So every few weeks I make a trip to Trader Joe’s for the sole purpose of buying a bright, colorful, mini collection of flowers to put on the dinner table.

And yes, after a few weeks, you will have to toss their remains along with the dehydrated petals that fell over the duration of their life. But it is simply because of their end, that flowers are so gorgeous during their life.
