On Guard with Mrs. Johnsguard

Mrs. Johnsguard, a former teacher and now beloved substitute, talks with Aydin Akyol about her life and dabbles into just a fraction of her career, school life, and who she is as a person. Where did you go to high school?

Ross Senior High in Hamilton

What was your school’s mascot?

I’m pretty sure it was a Ram 

When did you graduate?

1972

What was your favorite class in high school and why?

English because Mrs. Parks was the greatest teacher on the planet and ever since I moved away from Ohio, I haven’t gone back without having lunch with her. 

What was your most challenging class and why?

Math, It was just a struggle for me, I was just bad at math. 

What extracurricular activities were you involved in?

Volleyball, ASB every year, Homecoming and Prom 

What was your favorite extracurricular activity and why?

Volleyball and Asb because I just loved to be a part of the student body. 

Who were your favorite bands/artists/songs while in high school?

Jethro Tull, Elton John 

What was your favorite tv show in high school?

Perry Mason 

What was your favorite novel?

Fahrenheit 451

What was your favorite movie while in high school?

Valley of the Dolls 

Bothered Me?

The Exorcist 

What are your favorite memories of high school?

Having everyone of my 12 siblings’ friends come over to our families house after school and just being able to have a big hangout. 

Do you still play Volleyball? 

No, the rules have changed so much since when I used to play. 

What is your least favorite memory of high school?

Detention for just thinking of skipping! 

What time did school start and end?

Around  7 and end around 3 

What was your gpa?

Around 3.0 

Did you receive any awards?

Lots of fun superlatives like “Most Popular” and “Best Dressed”. 

How did you get to school (if you drove, what kind of car)?

Dad dropped off or walked, Toxic Boyfriend 

Did you ever have to go the dean or principal’s office? Why?

Only once in highschool. I skipped with my friends to go shopping downtown and I saw the vice principal in the car right next to me!
