Always Greener in a Different Time

By Logan Whiteson

I used to want to be a teen

Free enough, but not held accountable

Now I’m in high school

Trapped in my body and home

Wishing to go back to the innocence I once had

Not being forced to straddle the line

Of responsible but not stepping on my parents’ toes

Dreaming of the day I’ll be an adult

But when I’m older

I’ll pray to go back to being a teen

Or maybe a kid I’m not sure

But I know I’ll aspire for a different time

Because the greenest grass is never mine
