Ranking Suits Characters

A few nights a week, my sister, mother, and I gather to watch Suits. Approaching the end of season 4, we have each become set in our opinions, some of which vary drastically. Thus, I present our:

Harvey Specter

We all LOVE Harvey. With his perfectly coiffed hair, “you see that’s funny because” jokes, and ever-present swagger, Harvey is a joy to watch. Beyond being an exceptional lawyer, he also does more for Mike than Mike will ever deserve. Harvey continues to impress with every episode and is well represented by our collectively high ratings.

Donna Paulsen

Just like her boss, Donna receives nothing but amazing ratings from us. She helps Harvey at every opportunity, and her loyalty is admirable. Additionally, Donna seemingly knows all. Her peacemaking and keen observations paired with her side passion for acting make her a fascinating character. She also has a wonderful wardrobe, which in comparison to some other characters, is definitely another bonus.

Mike Ross

I find Mike to be annoying. While my mom praises his intelligence and how integral he is to the show, claiming all his misdoings are the fault of “nightmare situations,” I personally think I could live without him having so much screen time. His whole life unraveled because he was terrible at setting boundaries, swaying easily into Trevor’s stupid, selfish whims. He’s immature and always causing problems for everyone, so while my mom might like him, I don’t.

Jessica Pearson

It is well agreed that Jessica is by far the worst character on this show. She sets impossibly high tasks for everyone around her to achieve (half of which are to solve problems she made) and never once takes accountability or steps down from her high horse. She has no redeeming qualities, no empathy, and no respect for anyone. Oh, and she’s a hypocrite and a liar. I cannot conceive how she possibly got her own show. I hope (without success) each episode that she will somehow disappear and never return.

Louis Litt

Whether we like Louis or not depends greatly on where we are in the show. He is always changing, which makes for an excellent character arc in my opinion. He’s disloyal, but always seeking approval. I think his desire for Harvey to respect him makes him seem more genuine, and I think he adds a lot to the show. He’s also the cause of much of the comedy. He is a ballet enthusiast, has memorized every word Shakespeare has ever written, sued a guy for custody of a cat, frequents mud baths, and so much more. I love when characters are wildly interesting. For that, Louis deserves a decent rating from me, and a “depends on the situation” review from my co-watchers.

Rachel Zane

Worst girlfriend ever. While Sophie finds her average, and my mom is fascinated by the actress and the fact she later becomes a princess, I can’t stand her approach to her and Mike’s relationship. I don’t even like Mike that much, but I think he deserves much better than Rachel’s manipulation. The woman literally cheats on him and then refuses to leave him alone because she thinks she deserves him back. Like Sophie, I admire her dedication to her education, but outside of her passion for work, I can’t stand her.

Scottie

While Scottie is just “fine” to my mom, Sophie and I liked her. She tries so hard and is so forgiving, returning even after her and Harvey’s breakup to do Harvey a favor because she’s that good. Sometimes she pressed Harvey too much, which annoyed me, but overall I liked her and I wish she had more screen time.

Jenny

My mom knows Jenny from Blue Bloods, and likes her for that. Sophie likes her aside from the fact she dated Trevor; I love her. Unlike Rachel, Jenny was an excellent girlfriend to Mike. She was supportive and super sweet, and Mike leaving her for Rachel was the beginning of the end of my like for Mike. Same as Scottie, I wish Jenny stayed for longer. She will always be a 10/10 to me.

Jonathan Sidewell

A favorite of Sophie’s, Jonathan had so much lore. The entire case with him and Tony Gionapolis and Mike and Logan Sanders went way over my mom’s head (her words), so she doesn’t have much to say about him, but we do. Sophie loved that he escaped from Tony to start his own successful investment banking business, and also that he was so proud of Mike (the plaque?!). He was so ready for Mike to close his first deal and Mike blew it and screwed Jonathan over. I feel bad for him! He is a character I wasn’t expecting to keep coming back but he did and new things kept popping out about him. I thought he was a good boss and a fun character.

Benjamin

I love Benjamin. We rarely ever see him but his presence is a delight.
