After a long day of badminton, my friends and I were looking around for a place to have dinner in the Fremont area. My friend, Oscar Tsai, recommended we go to a Taiwanese restaurant he recently discovered called Flaming Ox. After getting our seats and taking a quick glance at the menu, it was obvious the restaurant specialized in beef noodle soups. In case you’re unaware, beef noodle soup is… what it sounds like. It is a soup dish that is predominantly made with braised or stewed beef topped with noodles. It may sound simple, but the dish’s complexity can only be experienced when you eat it.
Now what made Flaming Ox’s beef noodle soup so special? With the approval of two of my Taiwanese friends, it is safe to say that the beef noodle soup from this restaurant is quite exceptional. Ordering the traditional beef noodle soup myself, I experienced a deep salty and savory flavor from the broth, along with thick and chewy noodles. However, if you don’t prefer thick noodles, you could also request the noodles to be thin. Let’s not skip over the amount of meat you get, as you also get a quarter pound of beef, showing they do not skimp out on the meat. If that is not enough beef for you, you could always order extra meat for a little bit more. In my opinion, the quarter pound of beef is the perfect amount as I began to get tired of it once I was fed the leftover beef from my friend’s order.
Having tasted this bowl of beef noodle soup, I can’t emphasize enough how good it is. You should definitely go try a bowl at any Taiwanese restaurant. If you have the chance, try to go to Flaming Ox because it is the best Taiwanese beef noodle soup I’ve had.
