To many students’ surprise, a Westmont High School alumni recently competed in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. Athlete Rachel Sung, a 2022 Westmont Graduate, represented Team USA in table tennis, a sport commonly known as ping pong! Although the women’s team did not medal since they lost to Germany 3-2 after a fierce competition. This will hopefully be the first of many of her Olympic games. Sung began playing this sport at the age of seven when her parents, as well as table tennis experts, first introduced it to her. Over the years, she has gone to many other prestigious competitions including the World Championships, and Pan American Ping Pong Games! Currently, Rachel Sung is ranked third in the US for her sport and is only 20 years old. While she is not busy training, Sung attends classes at the University of California Los Angeles.
