The Return of the Fockers

By Madeline Crowley

As a new season of field hockey kicks off, Westmont welcomed yet again a new coach to lead the team, alumni Taylor Cassilas! As she graduated only several years ago with the Westmont class of 2023, Taylor is eager to make this season as unforgettable for the current players as her high school seasons were. She has already guided the team to some great wins, including a 6-5 victory over Carmel High School and a 7-0 beat down against Sobrato. Senior and team captain Hailey Kearns made a memorable first goal of the season in the Carmel game. Much of the team agrees that practicing in the dry, end-of-summer heat can be brutal but with fun Friday practices the girls are always excited! Fun Fridays consist of enjoyable drills and a dress-up theme. Some of the themes of the past few weeks were crazy hat, crazy sock, and neon-themed. The team typically plays games twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Their next big match is against arch-rival Prospect High School on September 26 at 4 p.m. Don’t miss the chance to cheer on the seven senior players during their Senior Night on October 29 at 5 p.m., as they face off against Gilroy High. Also, make sure to follow the fabulous fockers on Instagram @westmontfockey for more updates about their season!
