Colorful Colorado

By Sophia Doan

Colorado Springs, a beautiful city about an hour’s drive from Denver, Colorado’s capital. Beautiful mountains, such as Pikes Peak, tower over you whether you go to hike, or go to shopping at Costco. A few minute’s drive will lead you to parks such as Red Rock Canyon or Garden of the Gods, both places that you wouldn’t expect to be a few minutes off of a highway. both places that look remote and not like they should be a few minutes’ drive from a highway. They have stunning hikes, unreal rock formations, and astonishing views.

Along with the hikes, Colorado Springs also has beautiful downtowns, where you can walk and shop with the mountains towering over you. You can visit the vintage arcade, stroll through old Colorado city, and walk towards the rushing rivers.

I used to live in Colorado Springs, and visiting this summer reminded me of everything wonderful about the city! I recommend visiting, and if you do, here are a few of the best places to go!

  • Skirted Heifer: A delicious burger restaurant with grass-fed burgers and natural soda, Skirted Heifer has fun vibes, amazing food, and a nice area to walk around after her meal.
  • Garden of the Gods: An amazing hiking spot and viewpoint with unreal red rock formations, for anyone who wants a relaxing time in nature without a long drive.
  • The Incline: An intense hike including a mile of stairs up Pikes Peak and 3 miles of trail down, the Incline is a rite of passage for kids growing up in Colorado. No matter your level of fitness, this will be challenging depending on the pace you take. The struggle is worth it when you see the sun rise over the breathtaking clouds.
  • Kairos Coffee House: The best coffee shop in Colorado Springs, Kairos was a staple of my childhood. Perfect for studying, hanging out with friends, or relaxing with a book, Kairos offers countless options, my favorite being the Italian Soda.
  • Dutch Bros: Even though this isn’t exclusive to Colorado Springs, anytime you get the chance to go visit Dutch Bros, do it. Although I love Starbucks, the Dutch Bros prices, workers, and drinks are by far superior.

These are just a few of the things Colorado has to offer, so I would recommend Colorado Springs as a tourist destination, college location, or future home!
