Old School: Sessions

Many may see him as just a math teacher, but he is so much more than that. World-class fencer, meditator, and teacher; the man, the myth, and the legend Adrian Sessions does it all with grace and elegance. His countless years of experience make him the best at what he does. Whether you have a question about your greatest fear or KISS Graphs, Sessions is the person to call. Where did you go to high school?

“John Marshall High School in Los Angeles.”

What was your school’s mascot?

“I have no idea. It was not me.”

When did you graduate?

“A long time ago.”

What was your favorite class in high school, and why?

“I loved biology. I was great in it. I loved it because I knew all the answers immediately.”

What was your most challenging class, and why?

“I can’t remember. I was probably traumatized.”

What extracurricular activities were you involved in?

“I did archery at that time. But fencing is where its at.”

Who were your favorite bands/artists/songs while in high school?

“No, but I do remember a girl that I was interested in. Her name was Monica; her parents were from Germany. She always wore this red dress.”

What was your favorite TV show in high school?

“Probably Twilight Zone.”

What was your favorite novel?

“I actually read a lot. Probably science fiction books. We had this whole shelf filled with sci-fi books. I read every single one. I read quicker than anyone. I read so fast that I could read one book a day. Then I started reading 2 books a day. At my fastest, I would read three books a day. Every single book, A-Z, I read it all.”

What was your favorite movie while in high school?

“I didn’t have any favorite movies, but the scariest one I saw was The Blob. The blob would ingest anyone.”

What are your favorite memories of high school?

“Girl in the red dress, Monica. She left and went to Venezuela. I was very sad.”

What is your least favorite memory of high school?

“Monica leaving.”

What was your gpa?

“Not very high. I would say B average. But that didn’t stop me. I became an excellent student later.”

Did you receive any awards?

“I don’t think so. I was awardless. I wanted to not be there.”

Did you ever have to go to the dean’s or principal’s office? Why?

“No.”

How did you know you wanted to be a teacher?

“I never knew. It was never my goal. But I enjoy teaching.”

What is your favorite memory from all of your life?

“Having Weston Kelly, Blake Kim, and Lili Metanovic in my class.” 

Where is your favorite place you’ve ever traveled to?

“I love traveling. Probably Cairo in Egypt. I went to a fencing contest there.”

Where did you go to college?

“I went to UCLA for undergrad. Berkeley for grad.”
