Started in 2017, Manie Musicale steadily grows more popular each year. Manie Musicale takes place during March and is a competition between French songs. The competitors range from world renowned artists like GIMS, to growing artists such as Ouidad. French students from around the world vote each week for which song they prefer between the two competitors. Students also fill out a prediction bracket before Manie Musicale starts to predict what song they think will win.
This year, the final matchup was a heated one. The beloved GIMS (with his song “HORIZON”) lost to Magic System with their song “Akwaba.” Personally, I was devastated when GIMS lost because he is one of my favorite french artists. However, I was not the only one who was upset by this loss. The entire class of sixth period French III felt enraged when it was revealed that he lost. Although he may have lost this year, hopefully he will be included in Manie Musicale next year and will pull out a victory!
