Summer Tunes!

By Marina Halbert

I associate the seasons of the year very strongly with specific music. The oncoming of summer inspired me to create a playlist with sunny and relaxing music to drive around to this upcoming season. Listen closely to hear the sounds of summer!

  1. “The Dog Days Are Over” by Florence and the Machine
    1. This song reminds me of incoming heat waves, driving to the beach, and the inherent joy that accompanies summer vacay. It’s ideal for any bright day.
  2. “Heat Waves” by Glass Animals
    1. Honestly, I don’t even like this song. It just reminds me so strongly of summer, that I couldn’t possibly disclude it. I swear when this song first came out a few summers ago, I must have heard it a hundred times.
  3. “Summertime” by The Zombies
    1. This song slaps so hard, and its literal subject matter is summer. If you took the AP Lit test, I feel like you’ll be a particular fan of The Zombies’ rendition of Summertime.
  4. “Bound 2” by Kanye
    1. This song reminds me of the feelings of possibility that accompany summer, when it feels like the world is at your fingertips and anything could happen.
  5. “Green Onions” by Booker T.
    1. Although instrumental, this song may be the most summery tune to exist. Give it a listen!
  6. “Gives you Hell” by The All American Rejects
    1. This song is so 2000s summer, it’ll take you right back to your childhood, running around public pools with your little elementary friends.
  7. “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” by Jet
    1. This song is very upbeat and catchy, making it feel particularly summer-y.
  8. “Walkin’ on the Sun” by Smash Mouth
    1. While I’m not a Smash Mouth supporter, this song goes hard. Once again, AP Litters will particularly enjoy it.
  9. “SOS” by Rihanna
    1. Simply a classic.
  10. Mood Ring by Lorde/Wade Bowen
    1. Something about the overtly silly tone of this song makes me think of relaxing on the beach.
