Don’t Fear: The Trio is Here

By Lili Metanovic

Throughout my life, I’ve had a lot of friendships where I felt excluded or, more significantly, treated unfairly. In the majority of these friendships, it was a trio. I came to think that trios don’t work as there is always a duo in a trio which results in these friendships ending. My views were altered when Malia Wightman, Sadie York, and I developed a new friendship.

Since I essentially just knew Sadie and my sister, I was anxious as I walked into my first ASB class, and the fact that Sadie wouldn’t be there that day also didn’t ease my nerves. Peering into the chaotic ASB room, I recognized Malia’s somewhat familiar face. It seemed as though she was searching for me as well, just hoping to see a face she knew as I was doing the same. That day rendered the start of a blossoming friendship which Sadie soon joined. We became the “Best Freshmen” which soon turned into the “Best Sophomores”. We tackled everything together from ASB events, sports games, and even each other’s problems. Anything that happens to one of us, happens to all of us. We are a trio, a trio that sticks together through thick and thin.

Many would think that seeing each other at 7:30 am every morning for the past two years would make us sick of each other, but in reality, it does the opposite. When we don’t have ASB in the morning because of minimum days, or we have a break from school, we make sure that we still see each other. I guess we just can’t get enough of each other! Forming this friendship has made me discover true happiness, and the happiness comes from the littlest things such as getting Starbucks together to being stuck with each other all day because of a rally. I finally found people who make light of the darkest times and by doing so, I grow abs every time I’m with them from laughing so much. They changed my life because they made me feel like I belong somewhere and whenever I spend time with them it only further consolidates my love towards them.

I hope the once “Best Freshmen”, to the now “Best Sophomores” stick together to become the “Best Juniors” and sadly the “Best Seniors”. Now that I have found my people, the search is over. There won’t be any more ASB classes where I have to look for a familiar face (partially because we don’t go anywhere without one another). Malia and Sadie are stuck with me whether they like it or not… and I am forever grateful for that.
