My best friend, sidekick, personal chauffeur, and sister all in one. Through all of the shared experiences and secrets we have, our love for each other has only grown stronger. Growing up together, we got to see one another grow and change into the people we are today. Watching my sister grow up and being part of it was probably one of the best things that could have happened to me. I learned and saw things that would prepare me for when I soon came to the age she once was. On the other hand, watching her grow up was also scary, knowing that everyday she was closer to leaving me to fulfill her college dreams.
Growing up together means we have shared many moments together—from memorable to traumatic. We did everything as a pair, from smashing a bug while screaming our heads off to going to get a sweet treat late at night. Through everything that’s happened to me in life, there has only been one constant for me to rely on; my sister. My sister has always been a shoulder for me to cry on and an ear to listen to me rant to. Nothing is too much information for sisters, we know everything about one another and things the other doesn’t even know about themselves. We share secrets and are always there for one another even through our fights, knowing that nothing could break our bond.
Having a sister is different than having a friend. Having a sister means that you take their clothes without asking, knowing you will get yelled at later, but you don’t really care because nothing will happen past that one minute of anger. Having a sister means that even when we’re not together our bond will still live, we’re family, so naturally we’re stuck with each other.
Sisters by chance, (best) friends by choice. Thank you Melania Metanovic for inspiring me every day to be more like your perfect self and making me a better person with every piece of advice you give me.
