You’re closer to 20 than you are to 16
and years ago that seemed so far away
You’re closer to having your first drink
than graduating middle school
and in 2nd grade that seemed so surreal
Because just years ago you were a kid
not having to worry about grades
or what you wore as you walked across the stage
and you didn’t have to think about
where you’re spending
the next few years of your life
And I know you haven’t noticed but
you’re closer to adulthood than you’ll
ever be again to childhood
