Somehow, some way, both presidential candidates from 2020 survived 4 years, and now, are squaring up for a rematch that will shake the country, as incumbent Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump have informally secured their respective parties’ nominations. Here’s a quick review of each candidate, and the platform both the party and candidate support.
Donald Trump: Trump is running as the presumptive republican nominee, after losing the 2020 election to Biden. Trump’s largest running points are being against illegal immigration, largely focusing on the border with Mexico, as well as being hard on China, and making NATO be more self-sufficient, with less American influence in NATO. Trump’s running mate has yet to be confirmed, as he has disowned former vice president Mike Pence due to a lack of support.
Joe Biden: Biden is running as the presumptive democrat nominee, running as the incumbent against Trump. Biden’s largest running points are to protect Social Security and medicare, codify abortion, and banning assault weapons. Despite being president with a congress that has passed a mere 47 laws, he has unified support from the democrats, and will likely be running with the same vice president, Kamala Harris.
As November draws closer, Trump has extended his shaky lead by inches, ensuring a fiery campaign, tenacious debates, and an election that would be foolish to call before the votes have all been counted. Anyone interested in civic efficacy should keep a close eye on the race, as I’m sure this election will go down in history as one of the most competitive ever.
