Bouncin’ Basketballs
Wrapping up the 2023-24 season for the stellar Westmont boys basketball team, who went 8-2 in their league games. Overall, the team performed exceptionally well, scoring an outstanding 1383 points. Due to limitations from MaxPreps, it is hard to determine the exact spread between 2-point shots and 3-point shots. However, after speaking with senior Matthew Schoos regarding the team’s highest scorer, the personally tracked stats from the coaches indicated that sophomore Jackacob Forman averaged an impressive 14.3 points over the teams entire 26 game season. This incredible performance has set Jacob as the team’s most valuable player. Best of luck to the future Westmont Warriors, who will represent our school through our basketball program.
Back to Back
With an overall record of 14-3-2, and a league (BVAL-Santa Teresa-West League) record of 8-1-1, the Westmont Girls Soccer team found themselves with another league victory. MVP Kiarra D’Arcangelo has led the team to back to back league champions as well as leading herself to back to back league MVP. The leading scorers on the team who helped otherwise solidify the dominance of the league include freshman Lujyne Shalaby, junior Evelyn Santos, and senior Jaydn Tai. Senior and captain Naomi Wright says, “I’m so proud of the team for everything we’ve done this year. We’ve all grown so much and finishing my senior year with this group of girls is something I’ll never forget.”
Girls’ Basketball Wrap-Up
Coming third in the league with a record of 6-4, the Westmont girls basketball team had a great season. On average, the team scored 37.5 points per game and was able to grab 15.6 rebounds per game on offense. Senior captain Kendall Ho reflects on the 2024 season saying, “The team improved a lot from the preseason and we worked really well together!”
Spectacular Scoring
Screaming shots, perfect passes, and superhuman saves—the Westmont boys soccer team put on a fantastic show of skill and resilience all throughout their 2023-24 season. Coached by Matt Schembri, the team was able to achieve a bolstering 7-3-4 record, leaving them in third place in the Mt. Hamilton league. Holding this record allowed the team to go into the CCS playoffs; however, they were unfortunately eliminated after losing to Hollister with a score of 3-2 and entering overtime. Throughout the season, the team played with exceptional performances from both the offensive and defensive playmakers, creating vital opportunities for the team to pull away with impressive comebacks and victories. Senior Francisco Rodriguez was the team’s leading scorer with an impressive six goals and a final message that, “this year was very impressive as we placed top 3 in the A league after a ten year drought and set up the program’s future for lots of success.” Even with the unfortunate ending to this stellar season from the boys’ soccer team, there is still so much hope for what they will accomplish in the very near future.
