By Sophia Doan and Sadie York
For this issue, we were able to try Crumbl’s Valentine’s Day lineup. The week’s cookie assortment consisted of the typical Pink Chilled Sugar and Milk Chocolate Chip, with the new additions of Nilla Bean Cupcake, Chocolate Covered Strawberry, M&M’s Valentine, and Molten Lava. Each decadent cookie had lots to offer, and a uniquely different taste. While there were no particularly horrible cookies of the group, there were certainly a few that stood out above the others. Below we’ve ranked the 6 Crumbl cookies on a 10-scale criteria based on overall taste and expectations.
Pink Chilled Sugar
Sadie: 7/10
Sophia: 8/10
Part of the classic menu at Crumbl, the pink chilled cookie did not disappoint. We loved the combination of the chilled cookie and the delectable frosting. The texture provided by making it a chilled cookie contributed to the overall amazing taste of the cookie, while we also appreciated that it wasn’t too sweet. There’s a reason that the Pink Chilled Sugar cookie is a classic!
Nilla Bean Cupcake
Sadie: 6.5/10
Sophia:7/10
The Nilla Bean Cupcake Cookie was a delicious blend of warm cookie that tasted like it had just been pulled out of the oven, combined with a sweet frosting on top. While the idea was there, the Nilla Bean was too sweet, and the warm texture made it hard to enjoy with melting frosting. The cookie itself was delicious, reminding us of sweet cornbread, but the too-sweet frosting on top made the cookie lose some points.
Chocolate Covered Strawberry
Sophia: 9/10
Sadie: 8/10
Looking up the lineup on the website, we heavily underestimated the Chocolate Covered Strawberry cookie. The combination of a delectable dark chocolate cookie topped with sweet and subtle strawberry frosting works together to create the perfect treat. The dark chocolate wasn’t too sweet, and balanced out the flavor of the frosting. Perfect for Valentine’s day, the rich dark chocolate with accents of sweet strawberry was impossible to put down. The next time this cookie shows up at a Crumbl near you, do not walk, run to try this perfect cookie.
Milk Chocolate Chip
Sophia: 9/10
Sadie: 9.5/10
Words cannot express how good this classic cookie is. It’s hard to mess up a chocolate chip cookie, but it’s even harder to make one this delicious. The chocolate gooeyness of this cookie exceeds all expectations, it simply melts in your mouth. The ratio of dough to milk chocolate is perfect, and despite how it may look, is not overbearingly sweet. There’s just a distinctly comforting taste of this cookie that can’t be described. Paired perfectly with milk, or by itself, the Milk Chocolate Chip cookie can’t be topped, and luckily, is always sold at Crumbl.
M&M’s Valentine
Sophia: 8.5/10
Sadie: 8/10
Similar to the Milk Chocolate Chip cookie, it’s hard to go wrong with this one. The dough (which is the same as the Milk Chocolate Chip) is so gooey on the inside, with a nice crisp layer on the exterior. The M&M’s taste like, well, M&M’s. With this cookie, you’ll get exactly what you’re expecting, so if you enjoy a classic cookie and M&M’s, this is for you! Generally, a great cookie. The only negative would be our personal preference for the chocolate chips over the M&M’s, which had a slightly odd aftertaste. Nonetheless, it was a solid cookie which we’d definitely eat again!
Molten Lava
Sophia: 7/10
Sadie: 7/10
The Molten Lava initially looked like it would be the best of the lineup. However, the lack of molten and artificial taste set this cookie low on both of our rankings. The molten overall carried the cookie, with a sweet, warm chocolate in a delicious texture. Improvements we would make on this cookie would be to add more molten and make the base cookie dough the same as the chocolate strawberry. We would definitely recommend this cookie to any and all chocolate fanatics, but were overall expecting more from the Molten Lava.
