Sensational Stunt Season

By Kendall Albrecht

Competition season ended with a bang at nationals in Florida, but that doesn’t mean Westmont Cheer has slowed down quite yet. Immediately upon returning home from their final competition across the county, the team began preparing for cheer’s spring sport: CSC (Competitive Stunt Cheer). More commonly referred to as Stunt, the sport requires teams to learn 18 different routines—6 partner stunt, 6 pyramids and tosses, and 6 jumps and tumbling—ranging in difficulty as the number increases from one through six. At Stunt games, cheer teams compete head-on against a single team over four quarters, each hoping to earn more points than the other. With alternating possession, coaches call a routine of their choice which both teams then perform simultaneously; the cheerleaders who execute the skills most successfully (as determined by impartial judges) get a point on the scoreboard. Strategy and precision are key to succeeding in Stunt, and Westmont Cheer has set out to nail down these attributes as the season progresses. Historically impressive, Westmont’s record shows aptitude at winning stunt games, a legacy the team hopes to continue in the upcoming season. Should the Warrior cheerleaders maintain a zero-loss season—like they did in 2022—they will return to Stunt State Championships. Come show some support as Westmont Cheer fights to take down their rivals, the Branham Bruins, at their senior night home game on April 3rd!
