In the competition for the “Coolest Car” award, senior Olivia D’Antona need not worry about somebody else snatching the title. Owner of a sage green, 2015 Fiat 500, Olivia drives in style, turning heads and mesmerizing any onlookers lucky enough to watch the vehicle go by.
“I’m deeply honored to win such a highly-respected award, even though I did not know it existed,” Olivia humbly says in her acceptance speech. She adds, “Truly, The Wallys of The Shield are comparable, if not exceeding in prestige, to famous awards such as the Golden Globes, Emmys, and Oscars.”
So what makes Olivia’s car so stylish? Seeking an answer to this question, I received a tour of the famous car, led by Olivia herself:
Olivia uses the metaphor of “an old-fashioned kitchen” to describe the interior color scheme and buttons. Sitting in the passenger seat of the two-doored, two-rowed car, one enjoys viewing Olivia’s dazzling dashboard decorations.
Perched on the top right, two Beanie Baby sea creatures watch Olivia as she drives. The animal-loving senior received the red stuffed toys as a Christmas gift from her close friend, Mika Shahar. Below the lobster and tucked into an air freshener is a replica of McLovin’s Hawaii Driver’s License—a reference to one of Olivia’s favorite films, Superbad.
When I asked Olivia what her favorite part of her car was, she knew the answer immediately. Proudly, she exclaimed, “My Butters sticker!” Next to the defrost button, the South Park character innocently sits on a two-by-two-inch sticker.
Of course, a car ride with Olivia is not complete without Lana Del Rey’s voice blasting through the speakers. A major fan of the singer-songwriter, Olivia lists her three favorite tracks: “Norman F***ing Rockwell,” “Sad Girl,” and “Black Beauty.”
Unfortunately, all of this coolness comes at a cost; the Fiat often struggles to remain in stable health. For countless months, Olivia’s service engine light has remained “perpetually on.”
Olivia has reached peace with the yellow light: “There’s nothing I can do about it.”
Furthermore, the Fiat’s exterior is just as attractively adorned as the inside. On the back driver’s side, gel window clings peek through, and Butters once again pays a visit! Additionally, Olivia’s fuel door even contributes to the beauty of her car, donning a white flower sticker.
Lastly, if you ever find yourself behind Olivia on the road, you will notice two accessories in particular. First, your eyes fall upon a beautiful license plate frame that reads “Treat People With Kindness”—a catchy song and compelling motto by singer Harry Styles. To the right, a sticker quoting Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight: “I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.”
Olivia is well aware of her car’s unique qualities. Understating the beauty of the light green automobile, Olivia declares, “It’s the size of a clown car, but I make it work.” Truly, in a world of plain-colored, blank, ordinary vehicles, Olivia and her decorated Fiat stand out.
And guess what? I’m pretty lucky to call Olivia my best friend, which means I get to ride in Westmont’s Coolest Car all the time.
