Westmont Softball’s Secret Weapon

By Anjali Nayak

I would like to think that the softball team works hard. After an excruciatingly yet pleasurable long practice spent with Jim “Jefe” Marquez or Bryce Hadley, the team appreciates a good meal. Moments after packing my bag and walking out of the dugout, I am bound to hear the inevitable chatter concerning where we should take our appetites. Time and time again, we race to the same institution that has served us well for the past four years.

The Popeyes on Saratoga Avenue is full of chicken, fries, and memories. At first, I spent my vegan era eating rice and beans at the Popeyes, but since then I have graduated to my classic #6 combo with 10 piece nuggets and Dr. Pepper. Obviously, the best sauce is Honey Mustard, but Ellie Rodhouse would disagree, as she stocks up on Popeyes ranch anytime she can. Aarushi Kulkarni goes for the spicy chicken sandwich, and always gets a Coke. Lily Bourne swears that “Popeyes is nasty,” but can often be found stealing my fries.

It’s no joke that Popeyes is our secret weapon. I personally don’t think that there is any other way that Regan Steele would pitch as many innings as she does, or that Madeline Crowley keeps her cool amidst our hijinx.
