Among the many weird challenges and recipes that Tik Tok has gotten me to do, this one may actually be worth it! The “chickle”, a Tik Tok word created to describe the combination of cheese and a pickle, is the app’s newest food trend. As a fellow pickle lover, I gorge on the crunchy, juicy treat daily, when I get home from school, practice, during a homework break, or need a midnight snack. Thanks to Elliot Purse, I received three jars of pickles for my ASB Secret Santa gift! Pickles are truly an unmatched sustenance that contain a relatively low amount of calories and sugar making them a somewhat healthy choice. Whether you prefer to eat them in spears, chips, lengthwise slices, or whole, I have discovered that pickles pair really well with cheese!
As seen in the viral Tik Tok chickle challenge, you first heat up a pan, place some cheese on it to melt, put your desired pickle on top of the cheese, and wait for it all to crisp up. This quick snack takes less than 5 minutes to make and fuels you for your day! Many of the Tik Tok’s use shredded cheese and pickle spears, however when I tried this treat all I had in my fridge was Sargento cheese slices and mini Trader Joe’s pickles. I laid one slice of cheese on the pan, waited about one minute for it to melt, then added one of the mini pickles (cut in half lengthwise), and turned up the heat. After about 2 more minutes the cheese was getting crispier so I used a spatula to fold it up over the side of the pickle like a taco! I had very low expectations for this as it came from Tik Tok, but to my surprise this treat was really a delicious combination! If you are someone who likes when the cheese melts out of your grilled cheese and gets crispy on the pan, then you will surely like the chickle too. There are various other additions to the chickle on Tik Tok, including a breaded coating of hot cheetos and even a ranch dipping sauce. While I did not test that out, I would definitely give that a try too! Overall I would give the Chickle a rating of 8/10, it’s easy to make, has a great texture and flavor, and only takes two simple ingredients!
