The world-renowned KFC wraps have returned to stores across the nation, and I sprung upon this opportunity to get my hands on these magnificent morsels. I began with a 4-mile drive to the nearest vendor of the wraps, and eventually found my way to the front. I walk into the fine establishment and am greeted with a minute-long wait for a cashier. They walk up to the register and ask for my order. I politely ask for 2 mac-and-cheese wraps, along with one spicy coleslaw and one original. This order, although seemingly perfect, would turn out to be a mistake as I missed out on getting more of the best wrap.
My dad and I meander over to a table and discuss how delicious we expect the wraps to be. My naive self had high expectations for the mac wrap, without even giving thought to the others. When the food came, I dug right into the mac and cheese, disregarding the rest. I was somewhat underwhelmed by the cheesy chicken flavor combo, though I still loved it. The chicken, despite being covered in creamy cheese sauce, still had a perfect crunch that was extremely pleasant to the teeth. The flavor, although good, would have been better with a more prominent cheese profile. I rated this an 8/10 at the time, but would later lower the rating because of how outstanding the coleslaw wrap would be.
An underdog flavor coming for the throne, spicy coleslaw was not what I was expecting. The absolutely impeccable level of spice, copious seasoning, mellow but rich flavor, and outstandingly crunchy aspects of this delightful creation all mixed together to create a wondrous symphony of flavors. This was unlike anything I had experienced before. The chefs had worked their Kentucky Fried Magic to concoct a creative combination of crispy coleslaw chicken. I devoured the delectable dish, leaving nothing but crumbs on the wrapper. Immediately I rated it a deserving 10/10, and had to readjust my previous grade of the mac and cheese wrap to a 7/10.
The original wrap was exactly what I expected: a classic take on a classic dish. Basic, uncreative, and uninspired are the words I would use to describe it. A 6/10, there is a lot to improve upon. The only redeeming quality is the incredible fried chicken and its seasoning. The wrap contains this, along with 2 pickles and some sauce. I was almost offended that they served this to me, especially when I know what they are capable of.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the experience, solely due to the spicy coleslaw wrap. I would recommend the first two I tried, but you should save some money and not even try the original.
