At the beginning of the spooky season, my girlfriend and I began to watch the Conjuring series, from The Nun (2018) to The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021). The Conjuring movie series, directed by James Wan, explores the paranormal inve stigations of Ed and Lorraine Warren. Spanning multiple films, the audience follows multiple paranormal and religious figures in haunted houses, demonic possessions, and supernatural horrors. Renowned for its chilling atmosphere and based on real cases, the series has become a cornerstone in modern horror cinema.

  • The Nun (2018) 7/10
    • A solid opener to an amazing series, although lacking in actual character development most of the time, there is no denying that it is a perfect prequel to explain many questions the earlier films had created.
  • Annabelle: Creation (2017) 9/10
    • It is a really good movie that perfectly illustrates the fear factor every film produced following this release would have. The slow build-up to Annabelle’s true power and ability is nothing less than terrifying, watching a doll be able to transport people to a different dimension of sorts and be able almost completely to demolish her home.
  • Annabelle (2014) 10/10
    • A truly disturbing film that completely encapsulated both of us, the film is just outright disturbing at times, with very ominous experiences occurring to the Form family. The film is a complete must-watch with an amazingly dark alleged ending to the Annabelle plot line.
  • The Conjuring (2013)
    • A perfect first film to the Conjuring series, the introduction to the experienced Ed and Lorraine Warren documents one of their most disturbing cases. The saddest moment in the entire movie series has to be the death of Sadie, the Perron’s family dog. Other than that, the film is just a good film overall, although they do not have any plot setups, as there was no knowledge that the series would take off, which is an obvious problem with the first movie in film series
  • The Conjuring 2 (2016)
    • The chilling horror, slow buildup, and creepy hauntings help capture how important Ed and Lorraine Warren are in trying to help a hopeless girl who is possessed by the darkest entity in this series. This movie is heartfelt yet contains a huge handful of foreshadowing, hidden messages, and twisting events that create a sense of fulfillment for all of the avid fans of the Conjuring series.
  • The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
    • It is an obvious fill-in movie with no real relevance to the actual series besides a shallow cash grab off the name of the series. The randomness of the actual haunting combined with the newly introduced antagonist makes for a very off feeling while watching. The big bad is that Valek is nowhere to be found throughout the movie, which heavily disappoints.

The great series The Conjuring is still being produced, and there are still, hopefully, many more movies to come out. The most recently announced movie, The Conjuring 4: Last Rites, should bring another amazing. Many fans online have been hoping for a coverage of the Amityville case that the Warren couple took on in real life. We are very excited to see the movie in theaters and hope that it can live up to our expectations.
