Colorful Colorado

By Sadie York

Of the various states I’ve traveled to, Colorado has always been one of my favorites.  As someone who enjoys more mountainous terrain, Colorado offers breathtaking views and experiences. Known for its diverse landscapes of deserts, canyons, and the infamous Rocky Mountains, it’s difficult to imagine a place more beautiful.

“The Centennial State,” nicknamed for being established 100 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, is rich in history, which is embedded all around the state through several national monuments and parks. Denver, the capital of Colorado, sits on the edge of the Great Plains and is bordered by the Rocky Mountains. With an estimated 300 days of sunshine per year, Denver remains a bustling city with lots to see and do. During ski season, the city becomes an attraction to those offloading from the slopes of the Rocky Mountains.

Of all the gorgeous places to visit in Colorado, Estes Park has to be an all time favorite of mine. Located 70 miles from Denver at the base of the Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes is a small town, home to an abundance of wildlife (you’ll often be visited by a roaming elk or bear). While in Estes Park, you’ll feel completely immersed into your luscious green surroundings. Offering miles of trails and picture-perfect lakes, there’s no better place to unwind. Whether an enjoyer of the outdoors or indoors, there’s several things to do while at Estes Park. A few favorites of mine include the mountain roller coasters, kayaking, trail rides in the endless forests, visiting the infamous Stanley Hotel, and simply shopping downtown.

Colorado is a place where I believe everyone should visit at least once in their life. While having aspects of a typical urbanized city, Colorado also offers a completely different experience of the wilderness. Constantly commented as a “paradise for outdoor enthusiasts,” there’s so much to explore in “Colorful Colorado” that instantly makes the trip worth it.
