Nationals Bound

By Kendall Albrecht

Although they must leave football behind, Westmont’s Cheerleaders stay busy. Entering competition season, the team works tirelessly to perfect their two-and-a-half-minute routine—packed with stunts, tumbling, and jumps. Hours of practice paid off; the cheerleaders placed second at their first competition (on November 4) and qualified for NHSCC nationals in Florida, already earning a score higher than at nationals last year. Enthusiastic about the team’s early success, head coach Kelly Sutton says, “This year, we are thirsty for making it to semifinals in the most competitive division: small varsity D1. We will be up against 150+ teams, and we’re eager to get Westmont in the top 50% of the Nation’s teams!” Looking to improve further, Westmont Cheer hopes to continue impressing the judges at upcoming competitions on December 2 and 9. Cheer on the cheer team as they represent Westmont on the road to Nationals in February!
