AOTI: Legendary Luke Hanuska

By Mia Hanuska

Sporty, smart, and dependable, Senior Luke Hanuska does it all. Luke shines in the large goal of Westmont’s soccer team and off the field in Arrowbotics, Physics, and Engineering clubs. Growing up, Luke starred in soccer, baseball, and swim, but committed fully to soccer in high school. Balancing countless practices and his heavy school workload, he still manages to lead and motivate his peers and teammates. Luke spends his free time writing code and making delicious breakfasts for his family. Out of school, he plays for De Anza Force. This winter season will mark Luke’s fourth year as a varsity goalie and his first as captain.

Why did you choose soccer?

I started playing soccer because I was able to exercise while working with my friends to achieve a common goal.

Do you plan on playing in college?

I’ll definitely continue playing in college, if not for the school team then definitely intramural or something more casual.

What’s your favorite moment from soccer?

Winning the league and being promoted to the A league this year.

How do you prepare for a game?

I clear my head of distractions to focus on the game ahead, and then I eat a few chocolate-covered espresso beans to boost my energy levels.

Favorite soccer team?

FC Bayern München

Do you have any other comments?

I look forward to having a fantastic season with the team on and off the pitch.
