Percy Jackson’s Been Busy

By Mia Hanuska

Rick Riordian, author of the Percy Jackson, Kane Chronicles, and Magnus Chase book series, has been busy with many new arrivals. Here’s what has happened recently, and what’s coming up.

What’s out

Back in May, Riordan co-wrote and published with Mark Oshiro The Sun and The Star. In the story of Will and Nico, the two campers at Camp Half-Blood must survive together when forced into a perilous situation. This book is “stand-alone,” however nothing will make sense if you haven’t read The Tower of Nero, the last book of the Trials of Apollo series released in 2020.

Then, just a few months ago in September, The Chalice of the Gods was released. A follow-up to the ever-popular Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, which fans thought had ended years back, it seems that this book will be part of a trilogy following Percy through university. It takes place between Heroes of Olympus and Trials of Apollo, so reading both Olympians series is a must before opening this book.

What to expect

This December will mark the release of the long-awaited Percy Jackson and the Olympians television series on Disney+. It will have eight episodes in the first season and will debut on December 20, 2023 with the first two. New episodes will come out weekly.

Additionally, Riordian has confirmed the next book for the trilogy for The Chalice of the Gods will be named Wrath of the Triple Goddess and will be published September 24, 2024. Not much is known about the plot, but we do know that Percy will be receiving another college recommendation letter.

All in all, if you haven’t been following Rick Riordian recently or are just wondering what’s up in the Percy Jackson world, there are two new books currently out, along with a TV show and new book coming out within the next year.
