Who doesn’t enjoy a good pirate show? Our Flag Means Death, directed by David Jenkins, breaks viewer demand records at HBO Max as an exceptional comedy and drama starring Rhys Darby as Stede Bonnet, a wealthy landowner in search of adventure. Taika Waititi, Nathan Foad, Con O’Neil, and many more talented actors as the show’s leads contribute heavily to the quality of the show, as their collective comedic chops carry the show on their backs.
The first season, set in the Golden Age of Piracy (1717), follows Bonnet’s growth as a “Gentleman Pirate” with his unorthodox management, ragtag crew, and fledgling relationship with the supposedly vicious Blackbeard. Bonnet’s crew, though initially unhappy with their “non-pirate-like” lifestyle on the sea, eventually form a found family of sorts; complete with unwavering loyalty to their captain.
The long-awaited second season arrives on October 5, 2023. Well, at least the first three episodes. Any new updates on the misadventures of Stede Bonnet and Blackbeard are very much appreciated by the fandom, especially considering the heart-wrenching cliffhanger at the finale of Season 1.
