Grit, Goals, and Glory

Westmont’s hard working field hockey players have been stepping up their game recently. Working hard at practice and hungry for revenge, the girls improved since the last time they played Prospect in the Longhorn tournament, this time winning 1-0 with a goal scored by the fabulous senior, Coco Dougher. It was a hard fought battle, but the girls anticipate another win when the team plays them for a final time on their senior night, October 26th at 6:15 pm. The team’s most notable wins against Leland, Del Mar, Sobrato, and Live Oak, had goals scored by the amazing Molly Jarrett! Additionally, the sisters of the team, Emma and Sophie Tuan are cherishing their one season of being on a team together with Emma in goal and Sophie playing midfield. “As the inserter [on short corner plays], planning where the ball should go is sometimes difficult if the rusher is fast” comments Junior, Hailey Kearns. She adds, “the key to our success this year with goals and short corners came from our strong communication, adaptability, and persistence” which has been true in all of the teams games so far! Senior Kate Johnson exclaims, “It’s been so fun to get to play and build relationships with all these girls, and it’s so sad that it’s coming to an end,” as she reflects on her last season as a warrior.
