Warm Memories: Pumpkin Carving

By Laura Lipcsei

Hands covered in pumpkin guts, Michael Jackson blasting from speakers, and the aroma of pumpkin pie baking in the oven; pumpkin carving will always be one of my favorite Halloween activities. Whenever Halloween comes around, I always carve pumpkins with my family. We spend hours just listening to “Thriller” and “Somebody’s Watching Me,” while our messy hands carve out faces in our pumpkins. As we work, the smell of pumpkin pie wafts from the oven, tempting us with a tasty treat which we enjoy after dinner. Once we finish, we grab our pumpkins and sprinkle a bit of cinnamon in them so they smell sweet, and place our pumpkins out in front of the door. When night falls, we light candles inside our pumpkins and watch as they light up the doorway, guarding our house until Halloween.
