Cross Country

Cross Country. It’s a sport misunderstood and scoffed at by everyone who doesn’t do it. “Why do you run?” “Do you like cross country?” are questions runners get daily. Westmont has a cross-country team this year bigger than it’s been in a long time. This season the team plans on running many races at Montgomery Hill and taking a trip to San Luis Obispo. To get some insight into the runner’s perspective, we interviewed a few people from the Westmont team: 

Landon Cribari – Varsity 

How long have you run XC? “This will be 5 years.”

What is the hardest part about running? “The hardest part is pre-race anxiety.”

What are you looking forward to this season? “Placing Bvals and CCS.”

Julia Martin – Varsity

How long have you run xc? “3 years this year.”

What is the hardest part about running? “The workouts.”

What are you looking forward to this season? “I’m looking forward to hanging out with the team more since it’s my last year.” 

Weston Kelly – JV/Reserves 

How long have you run xc? “3 years including middle school.”

What is the hardest part about running? “Perseverance and not giving up.”

What are you looking forward to this season? “Our team trip to San Luis Obispo.”

Mia Keller – JV

How long have you run xc? “This is my second year.”

What is the hardest part about running? “Finding the motivation to keep running during hard workouts.”

What are you looking forward to this season? “I’m looking forward to our overnight trip to San Luis Obispo.”
