It’s Over Already?

By Lauren Marino

It’s true what they say, time flies when you’re having fun. High school is a roller coaster ride, always lots of ups and downs and twists and turns, and right before you get on the ride, you get a weird feeling in your stomach. I remember one of the first pieces of advice I ever received about high school is to get involved because high school is what you make of it. I didn’t realize at the time what this truly meant, but now I understand that I had the power to make my high school experience whatever I wanted it to be. The Friday night lights, dances, rallies, activities in the quad, and especially the late night study sessions are times I will never forget. In the beginning of high school, I was also super nervous to branch out and try something new, but I’m so glad I did. This past school year, I started my own club with one of my best friends, Jacqui McLean. We were both nervous about starting a new club because we thought, “What if people don’t join?…What if people think it’s stupid?” Jacqui and I ended up having lots of members join our club and we are now all making a difference for our school and our community. These past four years have been the best four years of my life all because I made the best of my time here at Westmont.

High school would have never been the same without the people that surrounded me these past four years. The entire Class of 2023 will forever have a special place in my heart. Each and every person has made an impact on my high school experience, whether it was my best friends or the people who only saw me during my first period class, my experience would not have been the same without all of you. Truly, the Class of 2023 is like a second family and it would not be the same without any of you. I would like to thank the Class of 2023 for giving me a high school experience I will never forget.

Four years may seem like a long time, but before you know it, you’ll be walking across that stage, grabbing your diploma and then moving your tassels from right to left. If I had to give advice to people in high school or about to start, I would say get involved and don’t be afraid to try new things, because you only have a limited amount of time in high school. The last thing anyone wants is to have regrets because you wish you did something, but now you don’t have the opportunity to.  High school truly is what you make of it, so start a club, go to the dance, try out for that sports team, and—most importantly—have fun. I can’t believe that it’s almost over…thank you Class of 2023 for the best four years I could ever ask for. Go Warriors!
