Grey’s Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy, the longest-running scripted primetime show on ABC, is a medical drama that was created in 2005 by director Shonda Rhimes. The series follows medical students while they navigate their way as interns, residents, and attendings at Seattle Grace Hospital. The series revolves around the character Merideth Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo. She is the daughter of the prominent general surgeon Ellis Grey. Meredith works alongside Christina Yang, Alex Karev, George O’Malley, and Izzy Stevens (prominent characters in the beginning few seasons). Their resident supervisor was Miranda Bailey who works with the attending Derek Shepherd. Derek is also Merideth’s love interest. Meredith and her four fellow interns struggle to balance their drama filled personal lives with their crazy schedules and work lives. Fans watch as they work their way up the ladder, from strictly working to assist their supervisors, then first hand leading surgeries, and to then becoming the top dogs of the hospital.

However, the show did reach a peak. As the years went on and new seasons were produced the original cast faded and an almost entirely new cast took over. Episode storylines became repetitive and the show seemed to just be dangling on by a thread. Main character Ellen, one of the last original characters, announced her departure in 2022 after starring in more than 400 episodes. In order to honor the original characters who made the show what it is, its ending should no longer be prolonged.
