Narcos Mexico

By Ojas Joshi

Fans of Breaking Bad, El Camino, and Better Call Saul gather around—there’s a new show in town. Narcos: Mexico chronicles the rise of Mexican drug lord Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo, from his small town roots in Sinaloa, Mexico to his international recognition as a cunning and violent kingpin. Streaming on Netflix, the show spans three thrilling seasons, as Felix combats internal and external struggles. Written, acted, and directed brilliantly, Narcos: Mexico offers a compelling narrative on greed, power, and money. Similar to the infamous Walter White from Breaking Bad, Felix starts out as a good-natured, shrewd businessman, working to break out of his impoverished livelihood. However, over time, money and greed drive Felix to forget his moral center. Following Felix’s transformation over three seasons gives precedent to the common theme of absolute power corrupting absolutely.

Historically, the show casts light on the inception of the War on Drugs. In each season, agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) work to mitigate Felix’s operation, contending with the rampant corruption within the Mexican government and Washington D.C. Cocaine, marijuana, opium—Felix smuggled it all, aided greatly by powerful politicians.

For those looking for a powerful, spellbinding, and captivating T.V. show, make sure to check out Narcos: Mexico.
