Cocaine Bear Review

By Madeline Crowley

The new Dark comedy Cocaine Bear, directed by Elizabeth Banks, is based on a true story that happened in 1985. The movie tells the story of a 175-pound black bear that ingested a large quantity of cocaine that was dropped from a plane by a smuggler. The bear, known as Pablo EskoBear, goes on a wild and chaotic journey through the forests of Kentucky, leaving behind a trail of destruction and attracting the attention of law enforcement. I loved all of the action and the plot, but watching this film with my 9 year old brother, however, was not a good idea at all. The amount of gore was not ideal, but for many, the gore is what attracted them in the first place. If you are looking to watch a drugged bear rip someone’s intestines out, this movie is for you! Some of the storyline is quite absurd and far-fetched but overall it adds to the quality of entertainment. Most reviewers have agreed that the film is a unique addition to the genre of dark comedies. The performances of the cast are hilarious, particularly that of the bear, who is portrayed using CGI effects. Overall, “Cocaine Bear” is a quirky and entertaining film that is worth checking out for those who enjoy dark comedies and bizarre true stories.
