Fall photos, pumpkins, apple and berry picking—all can be done at Gizdich Ranch, however, they are famous for their delicious pies! Located in Watsonville, Gizdich’s pies are certainly worth the 45 minute to hour long drive. Regardless of who’s going, there are pies for everyone’s preference. Currently, they have: Raspberry, Olallieberry, Boysenberry, Very Berry, Blackberry, Apple, Apple-Raspberry, Apple-Olallie, Dutch Apple, Double Berry Dutch Apple—and, since it’s fall—Pumpkin!
There are even different crusts to choose from! While apple has a lofty, glazed crust doming over its filling, Dutch Apple (anything with dutch in the name, really) has a crumbly sugar coating. The pies can be bought whole, or by the slice, however, I always recommend bringing a couple pies home with you, they are the best fall-warming gifts for neighbors, family and friends and make a scrumptious dessert on Halloween or Thanksgiving. If pies aren’t your thing, enjoy countless other pastries and popsicles—all made fresh from their delicious apples and berries. Looking for something a bit different? Have a picnic in the countryside with their deli sandwiches, or bring home a half gallon of their freshly pressed apple juice—seriously, try it.
A patron at the family run farm for many years, some of my best memories are picking apples (or pumpkins), sharing a pie with family and friends and exploring the picturesque scenery. Don’t let your dog miss out on the fun! Bring them with you on this adventure! Posing with your pet beside the pumpkins, haystacks or tractor can be an excellent fall photo opportunity.
Don’t take my word for it, try Gizdich’s delectable pies; I guarantee you will be coming back for more!
