Serena Williams Retires

By Larena Tannert

40 year old Serena Williams confirmed her shocking retirement from tennis. Williams is retiring to focus on being a mother to her daughter Olympia and considering expanding her family with husband Alexis Ohanian. It is looking like this year’s U.S. Open, a major tennis tournament, will be Serena’s final tournament before her retirement, though she is not entirely sure. She is ready to move on and focus on her family, but tennis has been her whole life for so long, and leaving behind it will definitely be difficult. A few years back Williams started her own venture capital firm, Serena Ventures, and although she is looking away from tennis, retirement allows her to focus more energy into her company. This major moment in Serena’s life is proving to be extremely difficult for her, as she has been playing tennis since she was three years old, and can’t even imagine a life no longer doing what she loves. Serena will always be an inspiration and tennis icon, and her legacy has forever changed the game. Retirement is a huge step for the tennis queen, yet I doubt this is the last we will be hearing from Serena Williams.
