Green eyes are the rarest in the world. Only 2% of the world’s population has green eyes. Because they are so rare, there are many fascinating green eye facts. The color green is not an iris pigmentation at all. Green eyes are an odd mix of light brown pigmentation, yellowish lipochrome pigment, and Rayleigh scattering. Green eyes are a genetic mutation that produces low levels of melanin. No one is born with green eyes, they are typically developed from 6 months to 3 years after birth. Females also have the highest chance of having green eyes. Green eyes are most common in Northern, Central, and Western Europe. Ireland, Scotland, and Northern Europe have the highest concentration of green-eyed people. Green eyes are one in a million!
