The Gilded Age, a historical drama television series set during a period of immense economic change, offers great conflict between old and new money. The series streams on HBO Max, with a total of nine episodes. As the first season commences, the viewers follow young Marian Brook, as she moves from rural Pennsylvania to New York City after her father’s death. Once in New York City, Marian moves in with her aunts Agnes van Rhijn and Ada Brook, in which she becomes embroiled in a social war between one of her aunts, an heir of old money, and her newly rich neighbors, a railroad tycoon and his wife, George and Bertha Russell.
The first episode of the series aired January 24, 2022, and almost immediately, drama ensued. Within the first season, huge fortunes were made and lost; consequently, Marian must choose whether to follow the established rules of society or forge her own path.
While the first season just concluded, the true drama has only commenced leaving many to wonder, what will happen next?
